    How much baggage can I check-in on SpiceJet Flight

    Effective October 24, 2020 SpiceJet permits one piece of free checked-in baggage of up to 15 kg with overall maximum dimensions of 158 cm (L+W+H), per passenger, for all domestic flights.

    Please note that if a passenger is carrying less than the permitted weight, then the balance weight cannot be adjusted as hand baggage and vice versa. Additionally, each bag must not exceed 32 kg as per airport baggage restriction.

    SpiceJet will not be responsible for unsuitably packed, perishable, damaged or fragile baggage or for minor damage to the exterior of baggage (e.g. scratches, stains, soling, dents) resulting from normal wear and tear or for water damage to non-waterproof baggage.

    How many pieces of hand baggage can I carry in the cabin on SpiceJet flights?

    Each passenger is permitted to carry one piece of hand baggage with maximum weight of 7 kg., free of cost. Hand baggage size must be within the dimensions of: 55 cm + 35 cm + 25 cm (L+W+H; total 115 cm) on Boeing flights and 50 cm + 35 cm + 23 cm (L+W+H; total 108 cm or 42.5 inches) on Q400 flights.

    Laptop bag/ ladies purse/ duty free shopping bags can be carried additionally, as long as the total weight of cabin baggage does not exceed 7 kg.

    Hand baggage over and above the permissible carriage limit of 7 kg will be charged at a cost of Rs.600 per kg.

    Passengers with infants are permitted to carry an additional piece of hand baggage with maximum weight of 7 kg., and not exceeding the aforementioned size dimensions.

    What are the charges for excess check-in baggage?

    Excess baggage will be charged at the rate of INR 550 per kg at the airport. Additional piece(s) of baggage will be subject to a fee of INR 1,000 per piece in addition to the excess baggage charges. To avail discounts, passengers may pre-book excess baggage/excess piece through the “Manage Booking” option on our website.

    Each slab for Prepaid Excess Baggage/ Prepaid Excess Piece can be booked only once i.e. per PNR/ per passenger/ per sector.

    With upgraded security on aircraft what items am I not permitted to carry onboard the aircraft?

    For safety reasons, dangerous articles, such as those listed below, must not be carried in passenger's baggage.

    • Compressed gasses: deeply refrigerated, flammable non-flammable and poisonous such as butane oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders and compressed gas cylinders.
    • Corrosives such as acids, alkalis, mercury and wet cell batteries and apparatus containing mercury
    • Explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares, ammunition including blank cartridges handguns, fire works, pistol caps.
    • Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter refills, lighter fuel, matches, paints, thinners, fire-lighters, lighters that need inverting before ignition, matches (these may be carried on the person), radio active material, Briefcases and attaché case with installed alarm devices. Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder and peroxides.
    • Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials. Other dangerous articles such as magnetized materials, offensive or irritating materials.
    • Carriage of dry cell batteries, knives, scissors, sharp instruments, tools, firearms, ammunitions, and toy replicas are prohibited in the Passenger cabin.
    • Personal motorized vehicles (powered by lithium battery) similar to hover-boards, self balancing device, scooter etc. will not be permitted on Spicejet flights.
    • Spare Lithium ion batteries, power banks may be carried as cabin baggage only. Lithium ion batteries of watt-hour (Wh), rating above 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh, will be permitted. These batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits.

    As per security regulations, passengers are advised:

      • Not to accept packets or parcels from anyone they don't know;
      • Not to leave baggage unobserved at any time, especially within airport area. Unattended baggage may be removed by Airport Security Staff as object of suspicion. SpiceJet assumes no liability for any articles or baggage that are removed or left behind at the airport.

    Can I check-in for my onward flight at the point of departure and reclaim my checked-in baggage at the end of the entire journey?

    No, SpiceJet does not offer the facility of through check-in for onward connections with SpiceJet or other carriers. SpiceJet operates only point to point service and our passengers will have to check-in separately for other flights. We don’t take responsibility for any inconvenience associated with missed connections to or from other carriers. Passenger must ensure that there is adequate time gap between flights involving change of airplanes or carriers at the point of stop over.

    When and how do I check-in?

    You can check-in for your SpiceJet flight through the airport check-in counters or from our website or mobile app through the web check-in tab.

    Web check-in is recommended to save time from the possible long queues at the airport check-in counters and for a swift airport experience. Web check-in for domestic flights is available from the booking time until 60 minutes prior to departure.

    If you wish to check-in at the airport, please note that the airport check-in counters open three hours prior to departure and close 60 minutes prior to departure for all flights.

    Passengers are encouraged to report at least two hours prior to departure. Passengers who fail to report on time will be treated as "no-show", resulting in their booking being cancelled and the fare retained.

    Can I reserve seats when I check-in?

    Your desired seat can be pre-selected as per availability by paying a nominal amount while checking in online. There is also an option to select "Auto Check-in" during the web check-in process. If you choose that, an available seat will be automatically assigned to you free of charge, and your boarding pass will be shared within 12 hours prior to departure. If you do not pre-select your seat and check in at the airport check-in counter, a seat will be assigned to you based on availability.

    To pick your favourite seat onboard and to avoid last-minute changes to your seating, it is always recommended to pre-book your seat during the booking or web check-in process.

    SpiceJet reserves the right to change an assigned seat at any time and without prior notification in the event of exigencies. The seat fee, if any, will be refunded in this scenario.

    What should I do if my baggage has been lost or damaged during my flight with SpiceJet? Am I entitled to compensation?

    Hopefully this won’t happen but if it should please notify one of our airport staff immediately and they’ll complete a Baggage Irregularity Report. We will endeavor to quickly locate and expedite it to you.

    How much baggage can I check-in if I have a connecting international flight?

    For passengers travelling on SpiceJet domestic flight to SpiceJet international flight or vice versa, the Free Baggage Allowance of International flight will be applicable within 24 hrs of its flight departure to any domestic flight after landing in India.

    Passengers travelling on SpiceJet domestic flight with a connection on another airline to/from an international destination are permitted one piece of checked-in baggage of up to 15 kg per passenger per flight.

    Can I bring my weapons/Ammunitions?

    Yes. A fee of INR 5500 per sector is to be paid for carrying weapons/ammunitions. Each passenger is allowed to carry one licensed fire arm (revolver, pistol, rifle) and not more than 50 live cartridges or as mentioned in Passenger’s license whichever is less.

    Who all will be exempted from applicable Weapon/Ammunitions Fees?

    Serving personnel from Defense forces, Para military forces and Police if travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order issued by their concerned department authorizing the carriage of weapon and / or ammunition for official purpose.

    Sportsman traveling either domestic or International for a competition or representing the country, will be exempted from paying the charge levied for firearms, air gun and/or ammunition provided they fulfill the following conditions:

    • Identification document for the sportsman. Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.
    • Valid license/authorization of fire arms and ammunition.
    • Bonafide for carriage of arms and ammunition on the basis of a written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him/her for the shooting event.

    Can I carry my Liquor?

    Maximum of 5 liters of alcoholic beverages with alcohol content between 24% and 70% by volume is permitted in retail packaging as checked-in baggage.

    The permissible limit of 5 lt. includes the duty paid alcohol that passenger may buy from the airport. Bills for such purchases must always be kept handy.

    On a domestic flight, alcoholic beverages are only permitted to be carried as checked-in baggage, unless they are purchased from the duty paid outlets. These duty paid alcoholic beverages can then be carried as cabin baggage.

    Alcoholic beverages carried on-board by passengers are not permitted to be opened and/or consumed inside an aircraft.

    Carrying alcoholic beverages from/into the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, UT Lakshadweep or any state considered as a ‘dry state’ is not permitted.

    Can I Pre-Purchase Excess Baggage?

    At the Airport: Passenger(s) carrying more than the baggage allowance will be charged at the rate of INR 550/ kg for domestic travel only. Additional pieces of baggage will be subject to a fee of INR 1,000 per piece in addition to the excess baggage charges.

    Each slab for Prepaid Excess Baggage can be booked only once i.e. per PNR/ per passenger/ per sector.

    Prepaid excess baggage: once purchased, cannot be cancelled in stand-alone or used partially (e.g. if a passenger has bought 5 kg and does not want to carry any excess baggage then the same is non-cancellable OR if a passenger has bought 5 kg and excess baggage is 4 kg then the remaining 1 kg is non-transferable/non-refundable/non-reusable).
