GURUGRAM, April 26, 2019:SpiceJet, the country’s favourite carrier, today announced the launch of two new daily flights connecting the underserved market of Durgapur with Mumbai. Durgapur earmarks SpiceJet’s 13th destination under the regional connectivity scheme. Flights are effective 25th June, 2019.
The Durgapur-Mumbai-Durgapur route was awarded to SpiceJet under UDAN III and is exclusive to the airline, thereby making it the only carrier to offer flight services on the sector. SpiceJet will be deploying its Boeing 737 on the route.
The new flights reiterate the airline’s commitment to augmenting connectivity between metro and non-metro cities. SpiceJet will also be launching its Chennai-Durgapur-Chennai UDAN flight in the current summer schedule.
Debashis Saha, Associate Vice President – Regulatory & Government Affairs, SpiceJet, said, “SpiceJet is pleased to announce the launch of our new flights which reiterates our commitment to providing air connectivity to the smaller towns and cities of India and our steadfast support to the government’s regional connectivity scheme.”
SpiceJet currently operates 35 daily flights under UDAN on the Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Ahmedabad, Kishangarh-Ahmedabad-Kishangarh, Lakhimpur-Guwahati-Lakhimpur, Jaipur-Amritsar-Jaipur, Delhi-Jharsuguda-Delhi, Hyderabad-Jharsuguda-Hyderabad, Kolkata-Jharsuguda-Kolkata, Bhopal-Udaipur-Bhopal, Delhi-Kishangarh-Delhi, Kolkata-Pakyong-Kolkata, Mumbai-Porbandar, Mumbai-Kandla-Mumbai, Hyderabad-Puducherry-Hyderabad, Jaipur-Jaisalmer-Jaipur, Delhi-Adampur-Delhi, Ahmedabad-Jaisalmer-Ahmedabad, Surat-Jaisalmer-Surat and Delhi-Kanpur-Delhi sectors. This is the highest number of flights being operated by any Indian airline under the regional connectivity scheme.
Durgapur’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, located at Andal, is India's first private-sector Greenfield airport. It serves both the industrial cities of Durgapur and Asansol. The new flights will further strengthen SpiceJet’s network in the state of West Bengal. The airline currently operates from Kolkata and Bagdogra in the state.
