Gurgaon, 15 September, 2016: SpiceJet, India’s favourite budget airline
was awarded the ‘Best Check-in Initiative’ by Future Travel Experience (FTE) global
awards held at the Mandalay Bay Resort Las Vegas. India’s favourite budget airline
bagged the global accolade for its introduction of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons
and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to simplify the check-in process.
The airline, in July 2016 rephrased ‘customer convenience’ on the back of technology in
a first-of-its-kind initiative by any airline in the country by launching Smart
Check-in facility using BLE and NFC technologies.
This feature available for all SpiceJet customers who have booked their tickets through
the SpiceJet Mobile App have to simply open the app and touch the mobile device on the
NFC Check-in Poster available at the airport to retrieve their mobile boarding pass on
their smartphones. The service has been initially introduced at the Hyderabad
International Airport Ltd. and will soon be available in all airports supporting the
e-boarding facility.
The 6th FTE Global Awards show, housed more than 600 senior industry figures from
airlines, airports, government agencies, vendors and a variety of other industry
leaders and stakeholders. The gathering was held as a worldwide platform to reveal
passenger-focused plans, discuss future visions, and unveil latest products and
services designed to improve the end-to-end passenger experience by experts around the
globe.
The FTE Global Awards recognizes airlines for their innovations. The global platform
celebrates outstanding efforts of organisations that have gone the extra mile to
improve the passenger experience both in-flight and on the ground.
The Smart check-in initiatives of SpiceJet was also recognised by CIO 100 India
symposium, a platform which recognizes the special contribution done by organizations
in adopting IT and IT Enabled services. Ms. Glory Nelson, Senior Vice President, IT,
SpiceJet Ltd. received the prestigious awards of - 'Mobility Maven Honoree 2016' and
'CIO 100 - The Transformative 100 Honoree 2016'. The awards were recognition of her
impeccable contribution to the ‘Best Check-in Initiative’ by SpiceJet
