Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam or Vizag is the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh, and a major sea port. It is renowned for its shipbuilding industry, and is headquarters to the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy. Nestled among the hills of the Eastern Ghats, the city is a perfect blend of secluded beaches, tranquil hill tops and picturesque valleys. Visakhapatnam with its Victorian era bungalows and sprawling gardens makes it a well sought after tourist destination.

Eating Out!

Visakhapatnam has excellent restaurants that appear to a variety of palates and pocketbooks. From Chinese and juicy north Indian tandoori to good wholesome south Indian vada-sambar and ‘continental’ cuisine, there is a dish here to suit most tastes. For authentic Andhra food, Hotel Daspalla’s Dakshin and Dharani lead the list, followed by Hotel Green Park’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ and Venkatadri Vantillu. The Dhabba Express at Siripuram offers mouth watering Punjabi food, while one can sample excellent world cuisine at the Vista Restaurant in Park Hotel.

Shopping

While not a shopper's paradise, Visakhapatnam offers a reasonably large selection of stores selling clothing, jewellery, books, etc. It also offers some unique handicrafts sold through Lepakshi, the state owned handicraft store, and an impressive collection of sandalwood sculptures.
