GURUGRAM, June 28, 2024: In celebration of International Pride Day and Pride Month, SpiceJet, has introduced a significant change to its airport and in-flight announcements soaring towards a more inclusive travel experience for all passengers. This initiative aligns with the airline’s continuous efforts to promote inclusivity and support the LGBTQI community.
Starting today, SpiceJet pilots, cabin crew, and airport staff will replace traditional greetings like “ladies and gentlemen” with more inclusive terms such as “Good morning, all you lovely people,” “Hello everyone,” and “Good [morning/afternoon/evening] and welcome aboard”. This new practice underscores SpiceJet’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all travellers, regardless of gender identity.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet,said, “At SpiceJet, we are dedicated to fostering a more inclusive environment where everyone feels acknowledged, respected, and welcome. Introducing gender-neutral announcements is a step in that direction, recognising the diverse identities of our passengers.”
In a separate but significant move towards inclusivity, SpiceJet launched a pioneering program on International Cabin Crew Day. This initiative equips our dedicated cabin crew members with sign language skills, enabling effective communication with passengers experiencing hearing loss. This initiative underscores SpiceJet's commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all travellers and empowers the airline to better serve passengers with hearing impairments.
