Guwahati, 3 October, 2016: SpiceJet, India’s favourite budget airline,
is further enhancing its network connectivity this time with a special focus on
North-East India. Fastening the north eastern states on its pan-India radar the airline
will be flagging off its first-ever direct flights on the Guwahati-Silchar and
Guwahati-Aizawl routes. The airline has also introduced an additional frequency on the
Guwahati-Kolkata route.
Shri Sarbananda Sonowal - Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam with Shri Jitendra
Singh -Minister of State, PMO & DOPT along with Shri Ajay Singh,
CMD, SpiceJet announced the direct flights on these routes at a press conference today
at Guwahati. Other Guests of Honor present during the event were Dr. Himanta
Biswa Sarma, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Finance, Tourism,
Education, Government of Assam and Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary,
Minister of Commerce & Industry, Transport, Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Assam
Mr. Ajay Singh – CMD, SpiceJet on the occasion said, “We are delighted
to substantially increase connectivity in the North-East. These flights will contribute
to the growth and economic development of Assam and the North-East. We support the new
government of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in their efforts and hope to work with them for
many more such initiatives.”
The airline’s existing schedule from Guwahati operates direct flights to multiple
destinations inclusive of – Agartala, Delhi, and Kolkata. With the new direct flights
introduced the daily flights from the city on the airline’s network has increased to
seven from four.
“We are pleased to launch the new direct flights to Silchar and Aizawl today. With these
flights, passengers will have more options to choose from. Silchar and Aizwal being
situated amidst difficult terrain, will now have better connectivity to the rest of
India. This is a small example of SpiceJet's commitment towards enhancing connectivity
in the North-East.”, said Mr. Debojo Maharshi, CMO, SpiceJet.
SpiceJet intends to enhance its operations in the under-served areas and thereby aims to
enhance regional connectivity. Whilst the airline has outlined new markets on to its
network inclusive of Silchar, Gorakhpur and Aizawl, it will also deploy a dedicated
fleet of three Q400 for the north-eastern markets. With the augmented program, the
airline will now operate 317 daily flights vis-à-vis its current schedule of 298 daily
flights to 44 destinations, including 38 domestic and 6 international ones.
