Gorakhpur, 4 October, 2016: SpiceJet, India’s favourite budget airline,
has once again reiterated its regional connectivity agenda this time by flagging off
its first-ever direct flights on the Gorakhpur-Delhi and Gorakhpur-Kolkata routes.
SpiceJet is the first low-cost carrier to introduce direct daily flights on the routes.
The airline intends to penetrate the untapped markets within its domestic network and
thereby aims to enhance regional connectivity. Whilst the airline has outlined new
markets on to its network inclusive of Silchar, Gorakhpur and Aizwal, it will also
deploy a dedicated fleet of three Q400 for this route.
Hosted by the airline CMD Mr. Ajay Singh, the flag off ceremony was accomplished in the
auspicious presence of Shri Jayant Sinha, Hon'ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation,
Government of India, Shri Kamlesh Paswan, MP Bansgaon, Shri Sharad Tripathi MP Sant
Kabir Nagar, Shri Harish Dwivedi, MP Basti, Shri Radha Mohan Das MLA Gorakhpur, Dr
Satya Pandey Mayor Gorakhpur, Shri Rakesh Kalra Regional Executive Director AAI, Shri B
S Meena Airport Director, Gorakhpur Airforce Officials, AAI officials, Administrative
Officials of Gorakhpur and other distinguished guests.
Honourable Minister of MSME, Shri Kalraj Mishra MP from Deoria, Shri Adityanath MP from
Gorakhpur and Shri Rajesh Pandey MP from Kushi Nagar have sent their best wishes to
citizens of UP East on the new flight connections and said that it will boost tourism
and the economy in the region.
Mr. Ajay Singh – CMD, SpiceJet on the occasion said, “There is
tremendous growth taking place in the economies of small towns of the tier-II and
tier-III cities. The next wave of growth for the Indian aviation industry is going to
come from them as these small town airports will enable the industry to explore the
growth potential of these untapped markets. With the onus of operating the highest
number of flights into smaller destinations in the market today we are now focusing on
elevating these regional cities on to our pan-India network. We are also planning to
boost our departures from Kolkata by 40% with an extensive outlook for domestic and
international network from the city.”
With the augmented program, the airline will now operate 317 daily flights vis-à-vis its
current schedule of 298 daily flights.
