SpiceJet flags off daily direct flight from Kolkata to Dhaka
  • Launches seventh international destination
  • Only low-cost carrier to operate on Kolkata – Dhaka sector

Kolkata, March 23, 2017: SpiceJet, the country’s favourite low-cost carrier, today flagged off its first daily direct flight services to Dhaka from Kolkata. The ceremony was marked with traditional flag-off and lamp-lighting ceremonies at the Kolkata International Airport. With this new flight, SpiceJet launched its seventh international destination and is the first and only low-cost airline to operate a daily direct flight on the route.

The launch was initiated with the customary lamp lighting ceremony by invited dignitaries and SpiceJet officials. Chief Guest Mr. Ashok Srivastava, Deputy APD, AAI inaugurated the check in counters by cutting a ribbon in presence of Guests of Honour Mr. BSN Reddy Chief Airport Security Officer, Mr Ramgopal T E, GM OPS, AAI and Mr Sanjay Dularey DGM OPS, AAI marking the formal announcement of the launch of SpiceJet’s SG 71 Kolkata to Dhaka flight. The boarding pass was handed over to the first passenger by Mr Ramgopal T E, while Mr Sanjay Dularey handed over momentoes to the passengers. The ceremony finally came to a conclusion with flagging-off the flight at 6.10 AM, from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The service initiates a new chapter in SpiceJet’s international connectivity scheme.

Commemorating the flight launch, Mr. Ajay Singh – CMD, SpiceJet said, “It is indeed a proud moment for us as Dhaka becomes our seventh international destination. SpiceJet is happy to have fulfilled its commitment to the West Bengal government, which was very keen on this new service connecting Kolkata with Dhaka. We hope to connect Kolkata with many more international destinations in the times to come.”

The new daily flight on the Kolkata – Dhaka route will help increase the connectivity with Bangladesh from India. Travellers coming for medical and business purposes will also benefit from this new flight.

The new flight will provide convenient onward connections to cities such as Bangkok, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Aizawl and Silchar via Kolkata to Dhaka.

Besides Dhaka, SpiceJet’s other international destinations include Dubai, Bangkok, Colombo, Kabul, Male (Maldives), and Muscat.
