Terms of Carriage

The definitions listed below apply to the terms mentioned across the Domestic and International Terms of Carriage or other pages on the website.

  • Passenger: Any person, except members of the crew, carried or to be carried in an aircraft pursuant to a Ticket.
  • SG: It’s a SpiceJet designator code. Such codes identify particular air carriers and in the case of SpiceJet Limited, SG denotes or means SpiceJet Limited.
  • Adult: For the purpose of buying a Ticket or for Tariff purposes, a person who has reached his/her 12th birthday or completed 12 years of age as of the date of commencement of travel.
  • ADF: The applicable Airport Development Fee collected by SpiceJet per passenger per sector on behalf of the airport operator(s).
  • Aircraft: A machine that can travel through air and has been certified as airworthy by the certified competent aeronautical authority.
  • ATO: The Airport Ticketing Office situated at the airport.
  • Agreed Stopping Places: Those places, except the place of departure and the place of destination, set out in the Ticket or shown in the airlines’ timetables as scheduled stopping places on the Passenger’s route.
  • Authorized Agent: A sales agent who has been appointed by SpiceJet to represent the airline in the sale of air transportation on its services.
  • Baggage: Refers to the passengers' personal property accompanying them in connection with their trip. Unless otherwise specified, it consists of both their checked and hand baggage.
  • Baggage Check: A check of passengers’ baggage to ensure that they contain no item that is dangerous or illegal or prohibited for carriage.
  • Baggage Identification Tag: A document issued solely for the identification of Checked Baggage.
  • BCAS: It stands for the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Government of India.
  • Booking: An act of creating an itinerary, record or reservation, either in paper form or in electronic form, with passenger details such as name, contact information, etc., through SpiceJet’s reservation channels, of the travel particulars of a passenger on a given flight.
  • Carrier: An air carrier other than SpiceJet whose designator code appears on the passengers’ Ticket or on a Conjunction Ticket.
  • Conjunction Ticket: A ticket issued to a passenger concurrently with another ticket(s) which together constitute a single contract of carriage.
  • Checked Baggage: It’s the baggage that is in compliance with airline baggage regulations and delivered to the airline during check-in to be stored in an inaccessible area to the passenger during the flight, for which the airline issues a Baggage Identification Tag.
  • Check-in deadline: The deadline that SpiceJet sets for passengers to finish check-in procedures and obtain their boarding passes.
  • Child: Passenger who is over the age of 2 (two) years and under the age of 12 (twelve) years, as on the date of travel.
  • Chosen Partner: A travel agency or travel portal that makes bookings, issues tickets, and provides other ancillary services for or on behalf of SpiceJet.
  • Conditions of Contract: Those statements contained in or delivered with the passenger’s Ticket or itinerary or receipt, identified as such, and which incorporate, by reference, these terms/conditions of carriage and notices.
  • Convention: Whichever of the following instruments is applicable:
    1. The Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules Relating to International Carriage by Air, signed at Warsaw on October 12, 1929 (hereinafter referred to as the Warsaw Convention);
    2. The Warsaw Convention, as amended at The Hague on September 28, 1955;
    3. The Warsaw Convention as amended by Additional Protocol No.1 of Montreal (1975);
    4. The Warsaw Convention as amended at The Hague and by Additional Protocol No. 4 of Montreal (1975);
    5. The Montreal Convention (1999)
  • Credit Shell: A credit note issued by SpiceJet to a Passenger, on account of any adjustment in the taxable value of services to be offered by SpiceJet and any compensation to be provided to Passengers under applicable law which may include redressal of any Passenger grievance in terms of the provisions of these terms/conditions of carriage.
  • Damage: Includes death, wounding, or bodily injury to a Passenger, loss, partial loss, theft, or other damage to Baggage arising out of or in connection with carriage or other services incidental thereto performed by SpiceJet.
  • Days: Calendar days, including all seven days of the week; provided that, for the purpose of notification, the day upon which notice is dispatched shall not be counted; and provided further that, for purposes of determining the duration of validity of a Ticket, the day upon which the Ticket is issued or the flight commenced shall not be counted.
  • Designator Code: The two or three characters or letters which identify particular air carriers in tickets, schedules, reservation systems, communications, etc. This code is assigned by IATA.
  • DGCA: Stands for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
  • Fare Rules: The terms and conditions attached to the fare.
  • Fare: The amount charged by the Carrier for the carriage of a passenger and his allowable free baggage, which is paid as fee by a passenger for air transport to fly from an origin to destination and includes the conditions, rules and restrictions for travelling on the airfare, as being applicable to the class of service to be furnished to the public, also otherwise known as an airfare.
  • Fit to Fly Certificate: The certificate required to be obtained by certain travelers from a registered medical practitioner as indicated in these terms of carriage.
  • Force Majeure: Unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond SpiceJet’s control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised.
  • Gate No-show: A passenger who has checked in for an outbound flight but fails to report at the boarding gate within the requisite timelines prior to the departure of the outbound flight.
  • GST: Goods and service tax, which is an indirect tax leviable on the supply of goods and services and includes SGST, CGST, UTGST, IGST, or a combination thereof, and applicable cess.
  • GSTIN: A unique goods and services tax identification number issued to the person duly registered with the relevant government authority.
  • Hand Baggage: Any of the Passenger’s baggage other than Checked Baggage that the Passenger is permitted to carry with him or her on the flight in accordance with the terms and conditions and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Infant: A Passenger with age between 7days and below 2 years on the date of travel.
  • INR: Stands for Indian Rupees, which is the lawful currency of India.
  • Itinerary, Receipt, Ticket, or E-Ticket: A document or documents, whether physical or electronic, including the passenger's identity, flight details, conditions of contract, and notices that are provided by SpiceJet or on behalf of SpiceJet to travelers who are flying with the airline.
  • No-show: A passenger who has made a booking but fails to check in for their outbound flight within the requisite timelines prior to departure and fails to cancel their booking.
  • Pets or Live Animals (AVI): Domesticated dogs.
  • PNR: A passenger name record, which is a unique booking reference number which identifies the passenger's booking in SpiceJet’s database for a sector or combination of sectors.
  • PSF or Passenger Service Fee: The applicable passenger service fee collected by SpiceJet per passenger per sector on behalf of the airport operator(s).
  • Regulatory Authority: Any statutory, government, regulatory and/or quasi-judiciary commission, court, body or authority (either at the union, state, or local level) incorporated under a statute or functioning within the purview of applicable laws.
  • Reservation Centre: SpiceJet’s 24*7 centre that helps in booking, modifying, or cancelling the flight ticket, along with other queries that a passenger may have regarding air travel. Contact numbers: +91 (0)124 4983410, +91 (0)124 7101600.
  • Sector: Each consecutive flight segment that has the same flight number.
  • Stopover: A scheduled stop on the passenger’s journey at a point between the place of departure and the place of destination.
  • Tariff: The published fares, charges and/or related conditions of carriage of an airline filed, where required, with the appropriate authorities.
  • Terms of Carriage: Conditions that form a legally binding and enforceable contract of carriage between SpiceJet and a passenger, that are available on the website and are incorporated by reference in the itinerary issued to passengers for bookings made through the website or through travel agents. The terms of carriage shall be subject to change from time to time, based on applicable law or at SpiceJet’s sole discretion.
  • UDF: The User Development Fee, as imposed by the relevant airport authority at certain airports in India and as applicable at the time of issuance of a ticket.
  • Unaccompanied Minor: A passenger between the ages of 5 (five) and 12 (twelve) years on the date of travel who is not accompanied by a passenger aged 18 (eighteen) years or more on the date of travel.
  • Website: Refers to the official website of SpiceJet, that is, spicejet.com, on which passengers can purchase tickets and also access information about the said airline, its offerings, and terms of carriage.

The carriage of a passenger is subject to SpiceJet regulations relating to the conditions of Non-International Carriage (Passenger and Baggage) framed in accordance with The Carriage by Air Act, 1972 and Notification regarding application of the Carriage which is non-international. These regulations are known as SpiceJet Non-International Carriage (passenger and baggage) Regulations 1992. The liability of the company for damage sustained in the event of the death or wounding of a passenger or any other bodily injury suffered by a passenger or by his registered baggage during the course of carriage by air will be governed by the provisions of sections 4,5,6 and the rules contained in the Second Schedule of Carriage by Air Act 1972 with certain exceptions, adaptations, modifications, etc. as notified in the Govt. of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation Notification and as amended from time to time. All disputes shall be subject to jurisdiction of Delhi only.

The title of each section of these Conditions of Carriage is for convenience only, and should not be used for the interpretation of the text.

SpiceJet Travel Policies

At SpiceJet, we operate as a ticketless airline, meaning that an itinerary does not constitute a document of carriage. The booking in the SpiceJet database serves as the primary record of carriage. In the event of discrepancies between the itinerary and the booking in our database, the latter will prevail. Below are important travel policies you should be aware of:


  1. Identification Requirements

    All passengers, including children and infants, must present valid identification at check-in. It is the passenger's responsibility to ensure they have the appropriate travel documents at all times. Acceptable forms of identification include:

    • Valid Passport
    • Valid Driving License
    • Election Photo Identification Card
    • Aadhaar/M-Aadhaar
    • PAN card issued by the Income Tax Department
    • Photo identity card issued by the employer (government or reputed private sector organisations)
    • School identification cards or any other photo identification proof for children travelling on SpiceJet
    • Valid birth certificate, mother's hospital discharge summary, vaccination certificate, or passport for infants
    • Nationalised bank passbook with an attested photograph
    • Pension card or pension document with the passenger's photograph
    • Disability Photo Identification Card or handicapped medical certificate issued by the respective state/UT governments/administrations
    • For foreign nationals travelling on domestic flights, the only valid photo identification is a passport
  2. Travel to Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands)

    Foreign Nationals/Non-Indian Nationals/NRI: Must carry a valid passport for travel to Port Blair. NRIs must have either a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card or a passport with valid documents.

    As the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a Restricted Area under the Foreign Nationals (Restricted) Order 1963, the provision for the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) has been relaxed for visits by foreigners to 30 islands.

    Citizens of China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, as well as those of Myanmar intending to visit Mayabunder and Diglipur in the North & Middle Andaman District, must obtain prior approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs for entry.

  3. Boarding Pass Information

    The boarding pass is issued solely for processing convenience and holds no intrinsic value as a document. Passengers are advised to retain the boarding pass until exiting the terminal for security reasons. Passengers on connecting flights should keep their boarding pass accessible for physical checks at transit points.

  4. Security Screening

    All passengers will undergo security screening before boarding the aircraft, as mandated by Indian regulations.

  5. Carriage of Infants
    • Classification and Travel Policy: "Infants" are defined as children aged above 7 days and below 2 years on the travel date, while "passengers" are those aged 2 years and above. Infants below 7 days of age will require medical authorization from a physician for acceptance. Unaccompanied travel for infants is not permitted, and bookings for infants cannot be made as stand-alone reservations.
    • Age Proof: Carry any of the following valid IDs for the infant for age verification at the airport on the travel day:
      • Birth certificate
      • Mother's hospital discharge summary
      • Vaccination certificate
      • Passport

      Failure to provide valid age proof will result in the need to pay the applicable fare at the time of booking, subject to seat availability.

    • Check-In and Documentation: Arrive early at the airport to allow sufficient time for check-in, security checks, and potential delays. Ensure you have all necessary valid documents for your infant for both domestic and international flights.
    • Seating and Fees: Infants travel on their parent/guardian's lap and do not require separate seats. An additional fee of INR 1,750 per infant per sector will apply. Each adult can travel with a maximum of one infant due to limited inventory.
  6. Unaccompanied Minor Policy:

    Children under the age of 12 require adult accompaniment at all times. SpiceJet accepts children aged between 5 and 12 years travelling alone as unaccompanied minors (UNMR inventory).

    UNMR Booking: The Unaccompanied Minor (UNMR) service can be booked through our website, mobile app, or by calling our reservation numbers: +91 (0)124 4983410 or +91 (0)124 7101600. To book through our website, simply select the "Unaccompanied Minor" option on the homepage when searching for flights.

    Fee: An additional fee of INR 4,999 is charged for each one-way domestic journey for unaccompanied minors.

    Travel Requirements:

    The Unaccompanied Minor Form (UNMR form) must be completed and signed by the child’s parent(s) or guardian(s) before the departure date. The form can be viewed and downloaded from https://corporate.spicejet.com/content/pdf/UNMR_Form.pdf. If there is more than one minor travelling under the same PNR, only one UNMR form is required, provided that the minors share the same parents, address, and contact number.

    On the day of departure, passengers must carry four printed copies of the signed and completed UNMR form to the ticketing counter. This form authorises the airline to care for the child until they are handed over to the designated recipient upon arrival.

    Along with the copies of the UNMR form, it is also mandatory to present valid photo identification for both the parent/guardian and the minor(s).

    Parent/guardian and the minor(s) must arrive at the departure airport at least 2 hours prior to departure for a smooth handover of the unaccompanied minor(s) to the airport staff.

    After the necessary paperwork is processed, the airport staff will take responsibility for the minor(s) from that point onward.

    Care and Assistance for Unaccompanied Minors:

    Airline staff will assist unaccompanied minors throughout the journey, including during airport procedures.

    Seats will be assigned closer to the cabin crew to ensure they are looked after at all times. Dedicated cabin crew will ensure their needs are met in-flight.

    A complimentary meal and beverage are provided on board from the available options.

    Travel Restrictions for Unaccompanied Minors:

    Unaccompanied minors are not accepted if an overnight stay is required for flight connections.

    SpiceJet does not transfer unaccompanied minors to international terminals for connecting flights with other airlines.

    Unaccompanied minors cannot transit between domestic and international flights with SpiceJet.

    Arrival Handover:

    Upon arrival, minor(s) are released only to the authorised individual specified in the form, who must present valid photo identification.

    The authorised individual designated to receive the unaccompanied minor(s) at the arrival city must arrive at the airport as per the estimated flight arrival time and contact the SpiceJet office for coordination.

    Once the minor(s) have been handed over from the flight to our arrival staff, our team will coordinate with the authorised individual for the minor(s)' handover.

    The authorised individual must present valid photo identification to the arrival staff before the minor(s) are released.

    Any checked-in baggage will be collected by the airline’s arrival staff and handed over along with the minor(s) to the parent/guardian.

    Web Check-in Restriction for Unaccompanied Minors:

    Unaccompanied minors (UNMR) are not eligible for web check-in. Check-in will be completed with the assistance of airline staff when the minor is dropped off at the airport ticketing counter by the parent/guardian.

  7. Wheelchair Assistance Policy

    SpiceJet provides wheelchair assistance to passengers at no additional cost. However, please be aware that there is limited availability of wheelchairs on each flight. Passengers can pre-book a wheelchair while booking their tickets on our website or by calling the reservation centre. To ensure proper arrangements, passengers are advised to submit their wheelchair requests at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of their flight.

  8. Emergency Exit Row Seating

    Emergency exit rows are specific seating rows on an aircraft that are located near emergency exits, usually on the wings of the plane. These rows are strategically positioned to provide easy access to emergency exits in case of an evacuation. The primary purpose of these seats is to ensure the swift and safe evacuation of passengers in the event of an emergency, such as a fire, crash, or other situations where an immediate evacuation might be necessary.

    Passengers seated in emergency exit rows have additional responsibilities and must meet certain criteria, as outlined by aviation regulations and the airline's policies.

    Due to their importance in ensuring passenger safety, passengers seated in emergency exit rows are always briefed by the cabin crew on how to properly operate the exit door and assist in an evacuation if needed.


    Criteria for Emergency Exit Row Seating:

    Passengers who pre-book emergency exit row seats or are assigned to these seats must meet the following conditions:

    • Be above the age of 15 years on the date of travel.
    • Be physically and mentally capable of performing tasks associated with opening the emergency exit, as outlined in DGCA CAR - Section 8, Series O, Part VIII, Issue I.
    • Not suffer from any temporary illness affecting mobility.
    • Not be travelling with an infant or requiring additional safety assistance, such as pregnant women, individuals using extension seat belts, travellers with guide dogs, or individuals with medical conditions.
    • Be willing and able to:
      • Locate and recognise the emergency exit and its opening mechanism.
      • Comprehend and follow crew instructions regarding emergency exit operations.
      • Follow oral directions and hand signals given by a crew member.
      • Operate the emergency exit and secure the door so it does not impede use of the exit.
      • Assist other passengers and follow a safe path away from the exit in an emergency.
      • Assess, select, and follow a safe path away from the emergency exit.

    Passengers seated near an emergency exit must pay special attention to instructions provided by the cabin crew during briefing sessions on emergency procedures.

    If a passenger does not meet these criteria or is unwilling to sit at the emergency exit, SpiceJet may reallocate their seat, particularly during take-off and landing, to ensure safety. SpiceJet also reserves the right to change an assigned seat without prior notice in exigent circumstances, with the seat fee refunded if applicable.


  9. In-Flight Guidelines and Services
    • Smoking and Alcohol Consumption Restrictions:
      • Smoking is not allowed on any SpiceJet flights, and all lavatories on SpiceJet aircraft are equipped with smoke detectors to ensure compliance with this policy. The consumption of alcohol is not permitted on SpiceJet's domestic flights.
    • Payment Methods and On-board Purchases:
      • Coins are not accepted on all our flights.
      • In the event of any failure, decline, or rejection of payment by the concerned bank for card payments made on board, it is the sole responsibility of the passenger to settle the declined payment. If the passenger fails to do so, SpiceJet reserves the right to initiate appropriate action for recovery of such amounts, including any additional expenses incurred by SpiceJet. By making any on-board purchases, passengers accept the applicable terms and conditions, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts at New Delhi, India.
    • Food and Beverage Services: Pre-Booking and On-Board Menu:
      • Meal Options: SpiceCafé offers a variety of hot meals, sandwiches, chef's specials, and dietary-specific meals, including diabetic options, Jain meals, and low-calorie salads, available for pre-booking at discounted rates. Additionally, passengers may pre-book a 500 g Mocha cake to surprise their loved ones.
      • Pre-Booking Timeline: Meals can be pre-booked up to 6 hours prior to departure, while special meals and cakes can be pre-booked up to 24 hours and 48 hours prior to departure, respectively.
      • On-Board Menu:Our on-board menu includes a selection of ready-to-eat products, snacks, and beverages for passengers to enjoy during the flight.
      • Non-Availability of Pre-Booked Items: : In the event that a pre-booked food item is unavailable, SpiceJet will provide an alternative food option or issue a full refund for the pre-booked item in the form of a voucher. This voucher can be used for similar future purchases at SpiceJet's discretion and without further liability.
      • Please note that images of food and beverage products displayed on our platforms, including packaging, are for illustrative purposes only.
    • If a corporate passenger voluntarily purchases an upgrade or is upgraded to SpiceMax, their entitlement to one meal and one beverage will remain unchanged, without any provision for an additional complimentary serving.

  11. Convenience Fees

    A non-refundable convenience fee will be levied on all transactions, as detailed below:

  12. Cancellation and Delay Policies

    Reservations made with SpiceJet are subject to our cancellation and delay policies. These policies outline the terms under which flights may be cancelled or delayed, including applicable fee and refund eligibility. For detailed information, passengers can refer to the sections that follow.

Web Check-in and Check-in Process

The essential details regarding web check-in, as well as the check-in process for domestic and connecting flights are outlined below:

  • Web Check-In: Web check-in is available for all domestic flights and remains open until 60 minutes before the scheduled departure. In cases where assistance is needed for check-in or re-issuance of boarding passes via Reservations, a facilitation fee of INR 200 per passenger will be levied. However, this fee is exempted for passengers with medical conditions/stretchers, and bookings made under the fares of armed forces and senior citizens.
  • Airport Check-in Counters: The airport check-in counters will open three hours before the flight's departure and will close 60 minutes before departure. Passengers are advised to arrive at the check-in counter at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure time.
  • Connecting Flight Boarding Passes: When passengers have connecting flights involving domestic sectors, they will be issued two (2) boarding passes at the origin airport. The first boarding pass will remain valid until the transit point, while the second will be used for the journey from the transit point to the final destination. Check-in for the final destination is permitted up to 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. For domestic connections, passengers can collect their baggage at their final destination.
  • Gate No-Show Protocol: If passengers do not appear for boarding at the transit point 25 minutes before departure, even if they arrived on time from the point of origin, they will be classified as "Gate no-shows." The baggage belonging to such passengers will be offloaded and transferred to them or to the appropriate airport authority at the transit station, with no liability on the part of SpiceJet.

Baggage Allowance and Excess Baggage Policies

To ensure a smooth and stress-free journey with us, please adhere to our baggage policies. Here’s what you need to know about travelling with baggage:

  • Check-In Allowance: Be aware of your check-in baggage allowance. Items exceeding this limit will incur excess baggage charges.
  • Cabin Baggage Limits: Familiarise yourself with the allowances and dimensions for cabin baggage.
  • Restricted Items: Adhere to restrictions on items permitted in cabin baggage.
  • Label Your Bags: Clearly label your baggage with your name and address.
  • Essential Items: Keep medication, important documents, valuables, and cash in your cabin baggage.
  • Declare Restricted Items: Inform us of any arms or explosive substances you are carrying.
  • Prohibited Items: Note the items that are strictly prohibited from being carried in both check-in and cabin baggage.

  1. Hand Baggage Allowance and Guidelines:
    • Each passenger is permitted to carry one piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight of 7 kg, free of charge. Hand baggage size must be within the dimensions of 55 cm + 35 cm + 25 cm (L+W+H; total 115 cm) on Boeing flights and 50 cm + 35 cm + 23 cm (L+W+H; total 108 cm or 42.5 inches) on Q400 flights.
    • Additional items such as laptop bags, ladies purses, and duty-free shopping bags can be carried alongside the hand baggage, as long as the combined weight remains within 7 kg.
    • Passengers travelling with infants can carry an extra piece of hand baggage, weighing a maximum of 7 kg and not exceeding the stated dimensions.
    • Carriage of Kirpan by Sikh Passengers: SpiceJet permits the carriage of Kirpans by Sikh passengers on domestic flights, under specific conditions to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Detailed requirements regarding size and routes are outlined below.
      • The carriage of Kirpan by Sikh passengers has been carefully evaluated to ensure public order.
      • Sikh passengers are allowed to carry a Kirpan under specific conditions:
        • A Kirpan may be carried on a person only by a Sikh passenger, provided the length of its blade does not exceed 15.24 cm (6 inches) and the total length of a Kirpan does not exceed 22.86 cm. (9 inches).
        • Kirpan carriage is permitted on Indian aircraft within the country.
        • Kirpan is allowed solely on domestic routes for fully domestic flights.
    • Hand baggage will be accepted in the cabin, subject to the availability of space in the overhead bin.
    • Oversized or overweight hand baggage will be accepted as checked-in baggage, and it will be tagged and available for collection from the arrival hall conveyor belt.
    • Hand baggage exceeding the 7 kg allowance will be charged at INR 650 per kg if excess weight is identified during boarding.
  2. Checked–in Baggage Policy and Special Baggage:
    • Checked-in Baggage: Passengers are allowed to carry one piece of free checked-in baggage, with a weight not exceeding 15 kg and overall dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (calculated as the sum of Length + Width + Height). The weight variance in check-in baggage below the stipulated limit does not entitle passengers to transfer the excess weight to their hand baggage, and likewise, any surplus weight in hand baggage cannot be transferred to check-in baggage. The designated weight limits must be strictly adhered to for both types of baggage.
    • Special Baggage: Sports and skiing equipment, golf bags, large musical instruments, bicycles, surfboards, LCD and LED TVs larger than 39 inches, and other such large or out-of-gauge items are classified as Special Baggage. When registered as checked-in baggage, Special Baggage will be subject to a handling fee of INR 2000 per bag.
    • Excess Weight Charges: For checked baggage exceeding the applicable free allowance, normal excess baggage charges will be applied in addition to the handling fee. The transportation of Special Baggage also adheres to specific terms and conditions concerning the carriage of fragile items and related matters.
    • Transit Station Policy: Passengers travelling from a foreign country to an Indian city and continuing their journey on SpiceJet to a domestic sector under the same PNR will not incur additional excess baggage or handling charges for Special Baggage at the transit station. Similarly, passengers under the same PNR connecting from a foreign origin country to another foreign destination via India on SpiceJet will not be charged extra for any of the aforementioned items at the transit station.
    • LCD/LED TV Regulations: : LED/LCD TVs with sizes 39 inches and below will be considered regular checked-in baggage. Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of two (2) LCD or LED TVs as checked-in baggage, with both types incurring charges. The largest size of LED or LCD TV accepted for carriage is 55 inches.

        3. Pre-booked excess baggage cannot be cancelled individually or used partially. For example, if a passenger buys 5 kg and decides not to carry any excess baggage, it is non-cancellable. Similarly, if a passenger buys 5 kg of excess baggage but only uses 4 kg of it, the remaining 1 kg cannot be transferred, refunded, or reused.
        4. Discounts for prepaid excess baggage may vary across different channels.
        5. Excess baggage allowance is not included in additional pieces of baggage.
        6. Each slab of prepaid excess baggage can be booked only once per PNR, passenger, or sector.
  4. Connecting Flight Baggage Policy
    • For passengers travelling from SpiceJet's domestic sector to its international sector or vice versa, the free baggage allowance of the international sector will be applicable within 24 hours of their flight departure to any domestic sector after landing in India.
    • Passengers travelling on SpiceJet domestic flights with connections on another airline to or from an international destination are permitted to carry one checked-in bag of up to 15 kg per flight as a free checked-in baggage allowance. SpiceJet does not offer the facility of through check-in for onward connections with SpiceJet or other carriers. SpiceJet operates only point-to-point service, and our passengers will have to check in separately for other flights. We don’t take responsibility for any inconvenience associated with missed connections to or from other carriers. Passengers must ensure that there is an adequate time gap between flights involving changes of aircraft or carriers at the point of stopover.

Baggage Restrictions and Guidelines

  1. Items Unacceptable as Baggage: The following articles or items must not be included in the passenger’s baggage:
    • Items that are likely to endanger the aircraft or persons or property on board the aircraft, such as those specified in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations, and in SpiceJet’s regulations. Further information is available from SpiceJet on request, although illustrative examples include:
      • Compressed gases (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable, and poisonous), such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders, and compressed gas cylinders such as camping gas.
      • Corrosives such as acids, alkalis, mercury, and wet cell batteries and apparatus containing mercury.
      • Explosives, munitions, fireworks, flares, blank cartridges, pistols, or any other weapons, and pistol caps.
      • Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter refills, lighter fuel, matches, paints, thinners, firelighters, lighters that need inverting before ignition, substances liable to spontaneous combustion, and substances that emit flammable gases on contact with water.
      • Radioactive materials.
      • Briefcases and attaché cases with installed alarm or pyrotechnic devices.
      • Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder and peroxides.
      • Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed killers, and live virus materials.
      • Other dangerous articles such as magnetized materials and offensive or irritating materials.
    • Items whose carriage is prohibited by the applicable laws, regulations, or orders of any state to be flown from or to.
    • Items that are reasonably considered by SpiceJet to be unsuitable for carriage because they are dangerous or unsafe, because of their weight, size, shape, or character, or because they are fragile or perishable, having regard to, among other things, the type of aircraft being used. Information about unacceptable items is available upon request.
    • Firearms and ammunition other than for hunting and sporting purposes are prohibited from carriage as baggage. Firearms and ammunition for hunting and sporting purposes may be accepted as checked-in baggage. Firearms must be unloaded, with the safety catch on, and suitably packed. The carriage of ammunition is subject to ICAO and IATA regulations as specified in Article.
    • Dry cell batteries, scissors, sharp instruments, tools, and weapons such as antique firearms, toy weapons, swords, knives, and similar items may be accepted as checked-in baggage at SpiceJet’s sole discretion but will not be permitted in the cabin of the aircraft.
    • The passenger must not include in Checked Baggage money, currency, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers or instruments, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports, or other identification documents or samples. To the extent that it is necessary to carry such items (at the passenger’s risk), they should be carried in the passenger’s hand baggage in the cabin.
    • Medicines and toiletries may be carried in limited quantities if they are necessary or appropriate during the passenger’s journey (to the extent that carriage is permitted by the appropriate regulations). Otherwise, many of these items can be carried as air cargo, provided they are packed in accordance with cargo regulations.
    • If, despite being prohibited, any items referred to in the above points are included in the passenger’s baggage, SpiceJet shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to such items.
    • Power banks and portable mobile chargers are allowed only in hand baggage and not in checked-in baggage. If any of these items are detected in the X-ray, your checked-in baggage will not be loaded on the flight due to security reasons. Older generation Apple MacBook Pro laptops with 15-inch screens purchased between September 15 and February 17 are prohibited from being carried in the cabin as well as checked-in baggage.
    • The carriage of satellite phones (Thuraya and Iridium) is prohibited on all flights.
    • SpiceJet will not be responsible for, or have any liability in respect of, articles removed from the passenger’s baggage by airport security personnel acting in accordance with any applicable regulations.

  2. Alcoholic Beverages Carriage Guidelines : The rules regarding the carriage of alcoholic beverages on SpiceJet flights are stated below:
    • A maximum of 5 litres of alcoholic beverages with alcohol content between 24% and 70% by volume are permitted in retail packaging as checked-in baggage.
    • The permissible limit of 5 litres includes duty-paid alcohol that passengers may buy from the airport. Bills for such purchases must always be kept handy.
    • On a domestic flight, alcoholic beverages are only permitted to be carried as checked-in baggage unless they are purchased from duty-paid outlets. These duty-paid alcoholic beverages can then be carried as hand baggage.
    • Alcoholic beverages carried on board by passengers are not permitted to be opened and/or consumed inside an aircraft.
    • Carrying alcoholic beverages from or into the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, UT Lakshadweep, or any other state considered a ‘dry state’ is not permitted.

    Please note that the consumption of alcohol on all domestic flights is strictly prohibited.


  3. Carriage Policy for Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC)
  4. The following guidelines apply to the carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POCs) on SpiceJet flights:

    • POCs are allowed on domestic and international (Boeing and Q-400) direct, via, or connecting flights.
    • POCs are permitted in both hand baggage and checked baggage.
    • Requests for the carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POCs) in-flight should be sent to custrelations@spicejet.com. at least 48 hours prior to flight departure.

  5. Baggage Refusal and Acceptance Guidelines
    • SpiceJet reserves the right to decline the transportation of items outlined in the "Items Unacceptable as Baggage" section.
    • SpiceJet retains the discretion to decline carriage of items that, due to their size, shape, weight, content, or nature, could compromise safety, operational efficiency, or the comfort of fellow passengers. Details about prohibited items are accessible upon inquiry.
    • SpiceJet retains the authority to reject baggage for transportation unless it is appropriately and securely packed in containers deemed suitable by the airline. Information regarding unacceptable packing methods and containers can be obtained upon request.

  6. Authority to Conduct Searches
  7. To ensure the safety and security of all passengers, SpiceJet may request passengers to cooperate with a search and scan of their person, as well as a search, scan, or x-ray of their baggage. If a passenger is unavailable, their baggage may be searched in their absence. This procedure aims to ascertain whether the passenger is carrying any items mentioned in the section titled “Items Unacceptable as Baggage”, or any firearms, ammunition, or weapons that haven't been declared to SpiceJet as per the aforementioned section. In cases where a passenger declines to comply with these security requests, SpiceJet reserves the right to deny carriage to both the passenger and their baggage. It's important to note that if a search or scan results in damage to the passenger or their baggage, SpiceJet will not be held liable for the damage unless it's attributable to the airline's fault or negligence.


  8. SpiceJet's Baggage Responsibility and Recommendations
    • SpiceJet assumes no liability for the normal wear and tear of baggage, including but not limited to scratches, torn zippers, straps, wheels, handles, scuffs, dents, soiling, or manufacturer defects.
    • SpiceJet is not responsible for improperly packed, perishable, damaged, or fragile baggage, minor exterior damage due to regular wear and tear, or water damage to non-waterproof baggage.
    • Passengers are strongly advised to remove perishable goods, valuables (such as cash, cameras, jewellery, electronics, etc.), and medication from their checked-in baggage and place them in their hand baggage. SpiceJet will not take responsibility for these items.
    • Should passengers include valuables in their checked-in baggage despite this recommendation, they do so at their own risk. SpiceJet will not be held accountable for any pilferage, damage, or other loss of these valuables, and any claims in this regard cannot be directed towards SpiceJet, its employees, agents, or successors.
    • SpiceJet is not liable for any loss or damage caused by delays in the carriage of passengers or baggage.
    • Receipt of checked-in baggage without complaint at the end of the journey serves as prima facie evidence that the baggage was delivered correctly and in good condition.
    • The Carrier's liability for loss or damage to baggage is limited to INR 200 per kg, with a maximum of INR 20,000.
    • SpiceJet assumes no liability for fragile or perishable articles included in checked-in baggage.

Carriage of Live Animals (AVI)

Live animals are permitted to be carried in the cargo hold for which the requirements are mentioned below.

  • The period of validity of the veterinary health certificates should not be more than 48 hours before the time of schedule departure.
  • AVI will be accepted only on direct flight.
  • SpiceJet does not accept live rats, guinea pigs and any other animal emanating a strong odor on its flights. SpiceJet also does not accept reptiles and other poisonous animals on any of its flights.
  • SpiceJet will not accept any live animal intended to be used for laboratory experimentation for transport on its network.
  • The owner of the animal will be responsible for compliance with all the governmental customs and health requirements, including quarantine arrangements at destinations, entry permits and other documents required by countries of entry.
  • Shipper's Declaration Form and a declaration indemnifying the airline will be obtained from the shipper at the Cargo warehouse.
  • Carriage of Animals into any country by air as a cargo shall be in accordance with the terms and conditions of IATA Live Animals Regulations (LARS) and SpiceJet Policy.
  • The pet dog must be properly muzzled and leashed.
  • AVI will be carried in the cargo compartment of the aircraft.
  • For CITES species, CITES Export / Re-Export Permit where required, veterinary examination, quarantine, or prohibition restrictions which may also include the food provided for the animal(s); also, the shipper shall obtain current requirements from local consulate or national authority concerned, if applicable.
  • If AVI is required to be loaded on or in ULDs (Unit load device), then ULDs are only loaded onto aircraft that are compatible with the load and associated restrictions.

Health

  • Animals shall not show any signs of illnesses. They shall be well fed (food and water) prior to transportation.
  • The carriage of animals in an advanced state of pregnancy is prohibited.

Documentation

  • Health documents stating the animal's fitness for carriage by air, breed, age of AVI and Fit to Fly Certification and Vaccination / Immunization record with Rabies vaccination date are required.

Minimum Age

Pets must be at least 4 months old for International flights or 3 months or 12 weeks old for Domestic flights. Females with young suckling, as well as puppies / kittens, will not be accepted.

  • A maximum of two adult animals of comparable size of up to 14kg each that are used to cohabitation may be shipped in the same container. Animals over and above the aforementioned weight limit must travel individually.
  • Animals up to six months old from the same litter, up to a maximum quantity of three, may be shipped in the same container.
  • Maximum weight of AVI should not be more than 35kg excluding the cage weight.

Restricted Breeds

SpiceJet will not accept the following breeds of dogs, including snubbed-nose dogs and short-muzzled dog breeds, as these animals are known to be susceptible to increased risk of heat stroke (when exposed to stress or changes in temperature), breathing difficulties or increased travel stress.

SpiceJet will also not accept poisonous animals and those who are known to produce offensive odors.

The following breeds are examples of those not accepted for carriage on SpiceJet flights due to safety and regulatory considerations.

Cancellations, Changes, and Delay Policies

At SpiceJet, we recognise that travel plans may require adjustments. Our policies for cancellations, changes, and delays are designed to provide the necessary support and flexibility. Below are the key details regarding each aspect of our policies.


  1. Cancellation and Changes Initiated by the Passenger:

    In the event of a booking cancellation or change initiated by the passenger, the following guidelines will apply:

    • Look-In Option:

      SpiceJet provides a 24-hour "Look-In" period post-booking, during which passengers can amend or cancel their ticket without any additional charges, except for the fare difference for the revised flight. This option is not available for flights departing within 7 days of the booking date. To avail of this option, passengers must contact SpiceJet's call reservation centre at +91 (0)124 4983410 or +91 (0)124 7101600.

    • Split PNR Functionality:

      A feature offered to SpiceJet passengers across various channels, including the SpiceJet website, mobile app, mobile site, and reservation centres. This feature allows passengers to separate or "split" a portion of their booking into a new Passenger Name Record (PNR). The feature is designed to provide flexibility, enabling a passenger to modify or cancel their segment of the booking without affecting the entire reservation. You can easily access this functionality online via the "Manage Booking" tab on the SpiceJet website, as well as through the mobile app and mobile site.

      Key Features:

      1. Applicability:
        • The Split PNR functionality is available for bookings with two or more passengers on both domestic and international flights.
        • For Friends & Family fares, a minimum of four passengers is required in a PNR to be eligible for a split. After the split, each PNR must have at least two passengers. For bookings with five or more passengers, the split PNR must also include at least two passengers.
      2. Booking Changes: When a passenger is split from the original booking, a new PNR will be created for the split passenger. The contact details in the new PNR will remain unchanged from the original booking.
      3. The Split PNR functionality is not applicable to Group PNRs and LTC (Leave Travel Concession) PNRs.
      4. The cancellation and change policies applicable to the PNR will remain in accordance with the fare rules of the original booking.

      SpiceJet reserves the right to modify, alter, amend, or change any and all of the terms and conditions of this functionality at any time, without prior notice. SpiceJet also reserves the right to withdraw or cancel this offer at any time, without prior notice.

      Note: The Split PNR functionality is designed to ensure that any changes made by one passenger do not impact the rest of the booking. SpiceJet encourages passengers to carefully review all terms, conditions, and disclaimers before initiating the Split PNR process.

    • Date Change:

      For domestic sectors, any changes related to the date of travel will incur applicable charges as detailed in the table below. If the original fare is unavailable at the time of change, the fare difference will also be applied in addition to the change fee. All fees are subject to change without prior notice.

    • Sector Change:

      Requests to change the sector for domestic bookings will attract either the applicable cancellation fee, or the base fare plus fuel surcharge per passenger per sector, whichever is lower. If the same fare is unavailable at the time of change, the fare difference will also be applied along with any other applicable fees. All fees are subject to change without prior notice.

    • Additional Charges for Bookings via Reservation Centre or Airport Counters:

      For booking cancellations and flight changes requested via the SpiceJet reservation centre or airport ticketing counters, an additional sum of INR 250 per passenger per flight will be charged.

    • Non-Cancellable Add-On Services:

      Add-on services such as meals, SpiceMax, excess baggage, lounge access, priority check-in, and preferred bag-out are non-cancellable in isolation.

    • Name Correction Policy:

      Recognising that booking errors can happen, SpiceJet is committed to providing a smooth travel experience. To help make your journey as easy as possible, we offer the opportunity to rectify minor discrepancies as outlined in the following guidelines:

      • Name corrections can only be made once.
      • Only one letter change is allowed in either the first or last name, including letter substitutions such as changing 'ee' to 'i'.
      • Title corrections are allowed at no additional charge, regardless of the time of change. However, once a title correction is made, no further name corrections will be permitted.
      • Full name changes are not permitted.
      • Initials are displayed as single letters and cannot be changed to different letters or expanded to full names. For example, if an initial is shown as 'A', it cannot be altered to 'B' or expanded to a full name.
      • Name corrections are free within 24 hours of booking. After 24 hours, a Name Correction Fee of INR 500 for domestic flights and INR 1000 for international flights will apply.
      • Passengers who have already checked in cannot make name corrections through our website or app. For assistance with this matter, please contact our reservations centre at +91 (0)124 4983410 or +91 (0)124 7101600.
      • The name correction fee shall be deemed non-refundable in the event that the passenger cancels the ticket. However, such fee shall be refunded in instances where the flight is cancelled by the airline due to irregular operations.
      • Please ensure your booking name matches your identification proof.

    • Promo and Sale Fare Restrictions and Refund Guidelines:
      • All spicy promotional or auction fares, particularly those purchased in conjunction with return fares, are restrictive and non-refundable, may not permit flight changes, and are subject to limited inventory available on a first-come, first-served basis; passengers are advised to check fare restrictions when booking, and SpiceJet reserves the right to withdraw or amend promotions without prior notice.
      • In the event of cancellation, non-utilization, or no-show on promo or special fares where the basic fare is non-refundable, passengers will be entitled to a refund of statutory taxes, including the User Development Fee (UDF), Airport Development Fee (ADF), and Passenger Service Fee (PSF), as applicable. However, bookings on flights to/from certain routes such as Ajmer, Belagavi, Durgapur, Gwalior, Jaisalmer, Jalandhar, Jharsuguda, Kandla, Kanpur, Pondicherry, Darbhanga, and Porbandar are excluded from this refund as no taxes are collected on these routes.

      Note: The fees mentioned above apply on a per passenger, per sector basis.   2. Cancellation Initiated by the Airline:

    SpiceJet will make all reasonable efforts to ensure the timely operation of its scheduled flights. However, unforeseen circumstances may cause a delay or cancellation of its scheduled operations. In the event of a booking cancellation initiated by the airline, the following guidelines will come into effect:

    • Passenger(s) who have provided a correct and working mobile number or e-mail at the time of reservation and have been informed about flight cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled time of departure shall be entitled to an alternate flight or refund as acceptable to them. However, if the passengers are informed of the cancellation less than two weeks before and up to 24 hours before the scheduled time of departure, SpiceJet shall offer an alternate flight allowing them to depart within two (02) hours of their initially booked scheduled time of departure.
    • Passengers who have not been informed as per the above provisions or have missed a connecting flight booked on the same PNR of a SpiceJet flight are entitled to the following options:
    • SpiceJet will provide an alternate flight that is acceptable to the passenger.
    • In the event that an alternate flight is not provided, SpiceJet will offer compensation in addition to a full refund of the air ticket. The compensation provided by SpiceJet will be in accordance with the compensation policy outlined by the airline, as mentioned below:
      • INR 5,000 or booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, whichever is less for flights having a block time of 01 hour or less.
      • INR 7,500 or booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, whichever is less for flights having block time of more than 01 hour and up to and including 02 hours.
      • INR 10,000 or booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, whichever is less for flights having a block time of more than 02 hours.
    • In situations where SpiceJet offers an alternative flight to or from an airport or terminal different from the one originally booked by the customer, the airline will bear the cost of the transfer between the alternate airport or terminal and the one for which the ticket was initially booked. However, if the passenger has been informed of the flight change at least 6 hours in advance, they will be responsible for making their own arrangements for the transfer to or from the alternate airport or terminal.
    • If SpiceJet cancels a flight, prepones the flight schedule by sixty (60) minutes or more, or postpones the flight by one hundred and twenty (120) minutes or more, affected passengers have the following options:
      • Alternate Flight Accommodation: Passengers can choose accommodation on alternate flights for the same sector within the next or preceding seven (07) days from the original date of journey, subject to availability and at SpiceJet's discretion. To avail themselves of this option, passengers must request these changes within 24 hours of the departure time of their original flight.

        OR

      • Full Refund: Passengers can opt for a full refund of the amount paid for the original booking.
    • In cases where adverse weather conditions or circumstances beyond SpiceJet's control lead to the cancellation or delay of your flight, SpiceJet will make efforts to aid you in reaching your destination. However, SpiceJet cannot be held liable for any consequences arising from the delay or cancellation.

  4. This section details the policies related to flight delays and the corresponding entitlements available to passengers, ensuring they are informed of their rights and the support they can expect during such situations.

    • In the event that the passenger has checked in on time and the SpiceJet flight is delayed from its original scheduled departure time, SpiceJet shall provide reasonable refreshments to such checked-in passengers. Following are these scenarios:

      In accordance with Para 3.8.1(a) of CAR Section 3, Series M Part IV, passengers are entitled to the following facilities based on the duration of the flight delay:

      • Up to 2 hours: Drinking water will be provided.
      • Between 2 to 4 hours: Tea, coffee, and light snacks or refreshments will be provided.
      • More than 4 hours: Meals will be provided.
    • In the event that any domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than 6 hours, passengers shall be informed 24 hours prior to the original scheduled departure time, or SpiceJet shall offer the option of either an alternate flight within a period of 6 hours or a full refund.
    • In the event that the expected time of departure is delayed in total by more than 24 hours from the original schedule time of departure, or in the event that the delay is more than 6 hours for the flights scheduled to depart between 2000 hours and 0300 hours, hotel accommodation shall be provided wherever necessary. SpiceJet shall have absolute discretion in the selection of hotels under the given circumstances, and no reimbursement shall be made in this regard.

  5. Delay or Cancellation of Connecting Flights and Passenger Entitlements:
  6. In case of delay or cancellation of a flight operated as part of the connecting flights, the following shall apply:

    • In case of delay or cancellation of the flight at the point of origin, which leads to the possibility of a missed connection at the point of transit, the passenger shall have the right to choose a refund, a credit shell for future travel on SpiceJet, or re-booking onto an alternative SpiceJet flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.
    • In case of a delay or cancellation of the connecting flight at the point of transit, SpiceJet will, at its discretion and subject to the availability of seats, offer the passenger the option to travel on the next SpiceJet flight.
    • SpiceJet does not provide connections with other airlines and shall not be liable for any losses incurred by passengers attempting to connect with flights operated by other carriers.

  7. Exemptions from Compensation in Specified Scenarios
  8. No compensation, as mentioned in the previous sections, will be payable to affected passengers if:

    • Adequate contact information (i.e., mobile number or email) has not been provided by the passenger(s) at the time of reservation.
    • Cancellations and/or delays occur due to a force majeure event that led to flight cancellation and could not have been avoided even with all reasonable measures taken by SpiceJet. For this purpose, a force majeure event includes, but is not limited to, political instability, natural disasters, civil war, insurrection or riot, floods, explosions, government regulations or orders affecting the aircraft, strikes, labor disputes causing cessation, slowdown, interruption of work, meteorological conditions, mechanical failures, commotion, embargoes, cancellations, or delays clearly attributable to Air Traffic Control, security or safety risks, or any other factor beyond the control of SpiceJet.
    • Cancellations or changes are made within 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure time, or if passengers fail to check in at least 60 minutes before departure for a SpiceJet flight, resulting in the forfeiture of the fare.

    The compensation mentioned above for the respective categories is not cumulative and cannot be combined.

Refund Processing and Methods

This section outlines the refund procedures and timelines for ticket cancellations based on the payment method used, including details for tickets purchased through different platforms.

  • If payment is made through the website using debit or credit cards, Net Banking, Wallets, or UPI, any refunds resulting from cancellations will be processed within seven (7) working days. The refund amount will be credited back to the source account used for the original payment.
  • For cash transactions, refunds will be made via online bank transfer only.
  • If the tickets that were purchased through travel agents, online travel portals, or similar platforms are cancelled, the refund will be processed within seven (7) working days from the time of ticket cancellation.

Passenger Initiated Changes and Offloading Policies

Self or Voluntary Offload

To ensure operational efficiency and passenger comfort, the policies regarding self or voluntary offloading after boarding are detailed below.

  • Self or voluntary offloading after boarding the flight by the passenger is strictly not permitted, except in an unforeseen event of a medical emergency or similar cases, such as the death of relatives, for which the passenger will have to provide evidence to the satisfaction of SpiceJet.
  • Self or voluntary offloading causes unwarranted inconvenience to other travelling passengers, delays in the operation of flights, and also incurs additional costs for the airline for such delays.
  • If a passenger offloads themselves for any reason other than the exceptions mentioned above, SpiceJet will cancel the entire ticket for that passenger's intended travel. Additionally, any further transportation, whether booked under the same Passenger Name Record (PNR) or different PNRs, will also be cancelled, and no refunds will be provided in such cases.
  • Each passenger who is offloaded for reasons other than the exceptions mentioned will be subject to an off-loading fee of INR 10,000 per passenger. This fee must be paid immediately upon offloading. Furthermore, SpiceJet retains the right to recover from each offloaded passenger any and all costs, whether direct or consequential, arising from disrupted operations. These costs may include, but are not limited to, expenses related to baggage removal, flight delays, disruptions, misconnections, and inconvenience caused to other passengers.

Voluntary Flight Change Request (VFCR)

The Voluntary Flight Change Request ("VFCR") provides an opportunity to the passengers of SpiceJet Limited ("SpiceJet") to change their confirmed flight booking to a reservation on an alternative flight as per the options provided by SpiceJet ("Change"), against receipt of SpiceJet vouchers ("Vouchers").


  1. Invitation
  2. The invitation to change your flight ("Invitation") may be communicated to you by –

    • Sending an email on the email address registered with us at the time of booking of original flight ("Primary Email Id"); or
    • sending electronic messages to the primary mobile number registered with us at the time of booking of original flight ("Primary Number"); or
    • a telephonic call on the Primary Number; or
    • any other way that SpiceJet may deem fit.

    By submitting your Change request within the time period specified in the message sent to your Primary Number or email sent to your Primary Email Id, you stand a chance to get a Voucher worth the amount as mentioned in the Invitation, if the request is accepted and the Change is confirmed by SpiceJet.


  3. Submission of Change request
  4. Submission of Change request or opting for an alternative flight, is voluntary. The customers need to send a coherent response to the Invitation in the following manner:


    • In the event the Invitation is received by you through a message on your Primary Number, you are required to click on the link provided in the message and you are then redirected to the SpiceJet webpage wherein you are required to select an alternate flight option and submit your response;
    • In the event the Invitation is received by you through an email to your Primary Email Id, you are required to click on the link provided in the email and you are then redirected to the SpiceJet webpage wherein you are required to select an alternate flight option and submit your response;
    • In the event the Invitation is made to you either by SpiceJet call centre representatives or airport representatives, you are required to submit your Change request in such form and manner as required by SpiceJet.

    Submission of Change request in response to an Invitation, will be considered as a valid "Offer". The Offer will be assumed to have been made by the individuals above the age of eighteen (18) years and shall be binding and deemed accepted and applicable on all the passenger(s) named in the PNR, if the same is accepted by SpiceJet. In case there are multiple passengers travelling under single PNR, only the primary contact person whose mobile number is registered as the Primary Number for the PNR or whose email address is registered as the Primary Email Id for the PNR ("Primary Passenger"), can request for Change for himself and on behalf of all the other passengers in such PNR. In such an event of an Offer being submitted by the Primary Passenger on behalf of all the passengers in the same PNR, pursuant to the Invitation, the Primary Passenger shall be deemed to have been authorized for the said act and such act shall be deemed to have been done by the Primary Passenger with authority, consent and on behalf of all other passengers travelling under such PNR and same shall constitute a binding Offer on behalf of all such passengers.


  5. Acceptance of Offer
  6. SpiceJet may confirm the acceptance of your Offer at any time prior to the departure of the flight on which you have a confirmed reservation, which may be communicated to you either to your:

    • Primary Number;
    • Primary Email Id; or
    • any other way that SpiceJet may deem fit.
  7. The additional terms and conditions governing the Vouchers issued by SpiceJet will also be provided in the communication sent to you along with the Voucher details, and all the passengers of the relevant PNR, including you, shall be bound by such additional terms and conditions.
  8. In case there are multiple passengers travelling under single PNR, a separate Voucher will be issued in the name of each passenger and all the Vouchers will be shared by SpiceJet with the Primary Passenger only. Please note that the Voucher can only be redeemed by the passenger whose name is mentioned on the Voucher.
  9. No change fees will be payable by for the Change. Neither you, nor SpiceJet, will be liable to pay any differential airfare to the other.
  10. In case, a round trip or a multicity booking is made under the same PNR, the Change (if the Offer is accepted and confirmed by SpiceJet) will only apply and switch the relevant flight(s) for which the Invitation has been extended. Any other sector or flights booked under the same PNR shall remain unchanged. Similarly, the fare type (e.g. Spice Max) and the SpiceJet services purchased with the original flight, will also apply to the changed flight, subject to availability.
  11. SpiceJet reserves a right to: (a) withdraw or alter the Invitation; or (b) revamp the alternative flight options; or (c) alter the Voucher amounts; or (d) modify the terms of acceptance of the Offer, at any time before the revised itinerary is issued to you, without assigning any reason or without any prior intimation.
  12. In case there are multiple passengers travelling under single PNR, the Change (if the Offer is accepted and confirmed by SpiceJet) will affect all the passengers in such PNR, unless otherwise requested by SpiceJet and consented to by the relevant passenger(s).
  13. SpiceJet will not be liable for any loss related to, or arising out of, non-receipt of any communication or Vouchers, or any misuse of Vouchers, if incorrect phone number or email address is registered with SpiceJet for the PNR.
  14. Notwithstanding anything stated anywhere, SpiceJet's overall liability for any claims related to the selection of alternative flight or Vouchers, will not exceed the total value of Vouchers.
  15. The VFCR and Invitation is being made on best effort basis and is subject to force majeure conditions.
  16. By accepting the Voucher, you assent to waive all your claims and rights against SpiceJet with respect to your original flight booking under the PNR, including but not limited to, any claims for loss, damage, cost or liability related to flight delay, cancellation, denied boarding or any other cost or charges.
  17. Any flight change of passenger by SpiceJet, including in case of denied boarding, shall at all times be governed by SpiceJet's terms of carriage available at www.spicejet.com, as same is a binding contract between the passenger(s) and SpiceJet.
  18. By conceding to terms and conditions of VFCR, you –
    • unconditionally and irrevocably agree to accept these terms and conditions and SpiceJet's terms of carriage; and
    • consent that all information provided by you may be shared by SpiceJet with its agents, representatives, service providers, employees and used for sending of promotional information affined to SpiceJet, in future.
  19. These terms and conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with the applicable laws in India, and all matters related to the Vouchers are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at New Delhi.
  20. SpiceJet Voucher issued in relation to Voluntary Flight Change Request
    • SpiceJet Voucher ("Voucher") will be issued to the primary passenger (i.e. whose mobile number is registered with us or whose email address is registered with us) specified in the PNR
    • The Passengers cannot transfer, exchange or encash the Voucher.
    • Each Voucher will be valid for a period of 1 year from the date of issuance. Request for extension or revalidation of the Voucher, shall not be entertained by SpiceJet under any circumstances.
    • Customers can redeem their Voucher by entering the Voucher code at the time of booking –
      • on the SpiceJet website.
      • on SpiceJet mobile application.
      • by calling SpiceJet customer care centre.
    • The Voucher can be redeemed against the base fare of SpiceJet flights and any other products and services offered by SpiceJet, other than any kind of airport charges, pass through charges or any other statutory charges and taxes.
    • The Voucher cannot be redeemed against group bookings or bookings made in other currency except INR.
    • The Voucher can be used only once and cannot be clubbed with any other SpiceJet offer or promotion.
    • The Voucher will be deemed as utilized fully in case of partial redemption and the balance amount of the Voucher will stand forfeited.
    • SpiceJet will not be responsible for loss, theft or unauthorized use of the Voucher and no replacement Voucher shall be provided in any circumstances. SpiceJet reserves right to deny accepting a Voucher if it suspects any fraud or misuse by the customer.

Denied Boarding

In the event of a situation arising due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g., clubbing of flights, change of aircraft type, etc.) resulting in passengers being denied boarding against their will, the passenger(s) will be eligible for the following amount of compensation, as mentioned.


  1. Compensation for Denied Boarding and Alternate Flight Arrangements:
  2. Passengers who have been denied boarding will not qualify for compensation if an alternate flight is arranged to depart within one hour of the original scheduled departure time of their initial reservation. However, if no alternative arrangement is provided, passengers will be eligible for the following compensation:

    • An amount equal to 200% of the booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, subject to a maximum of INR 10,000, in case SpiceJet arranges an alternate flight that is scheduled to depart within 24 hours of the booked scheduled departure.
    • An amount equal to 400% of the booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, subject to a maximum of INR 20,000, in case SpiceJet arranges an alternate flight that is scheduled to depart more than 24 hours before the booked scheduled departure.
    • In case the passenger does not opt for an alternate flight, they will receive a refund of the full value of the ticket and compensation equal to 400% of the booked one-way basic fare plus airline fuel charge, subject to a maximum of INR 20,000.
  3. Compensation for Denied Boarding on Connecting Flight:
  4. If a passenger has booked connecting flights with SpiceJet and experiences a delay at the departure station due to denied boarding, they will be eligible for compensation for the first leg as per the provided provisions. This compensation applies when the passenger arrives at the final destination at least three hours later than the originally scheduled arrival time.


  5. Conditions for Denying Boarding:
  6. SpiceJet reserves the right to deny boarding to any passenger who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or where it is deemed necessary for the safety and comfort of the passenger, other passengers, or the protection of property. This includes concerns related to unsuitable attire, cleanliness issues, intoxication, or medical reasons. Boarding may also be denied in the absence of adequate travel documents, and no compensation shall be payable in such cases.

Unacceptable Behaviour

If, in our reasonable opinion, passenger conduct is observed to endanger the aircraft or any person or property on board, obstruct the crew in the performance of their duties, or fail to comply with any instructions of the crew, including but not limited to those with respect to smoking, consumption of alcohol or drugs at any place in the aircraft, or display behaviour creating inconvenience to the other passengers (including under the influence of alcohol), SpiceJet will have full right to take all steps and measures to prevent any such act, including restraint.

  • Each such passenger shall also be liable to pay a penalty of INR 10,000 per passenger, which will be levied and must be paid immediately.
  • Additionally, such passengers may be refused onward carriage at any point and may be prosecuted for offences committed on board the aircraft.
  • Further SpiceJet reserves the right to offload you from the flight and recover from each such passenger any and all costs (whether direct or consequential) incurred as a result of your behaviour, including but not limited to air traffic control charges, diversion fuel costs, airport landing charges, necessary flight crew costs, costs incurred due to disrupted operations, flight delays, misconnections, and inconvenience to other passengers.

Passenger Compensation for Injury and Disability

In the event of a passenger's death, or any bodily injury resulting in permanent disablement that incapacitates the passenger from engaging in their usual duties or business occupation, the carrier's liability shall be as follows:

  • INR 750,000 for passengers aged 12 years or older on the date of the accident.
  • INR 375,000 for passengers under 12 years of age on the date of the accident.

Flight Operations and Liability

Right to Modify Flight Operations: The company reserves the right, without assigning any reason, to cancel or delay the commencement or continuance of the flight, alter the stopping place, deviate from the route of the journey, or change the type of aircraft in use without incurring any liability in damages or otherwise to the passengers or any other person on any ground whatsoever. The company also reserves the right to refuse to carry any person whom it considers unfit to travel or who, in the opinion of the company, may pose risks to the aircraft or the persons on board.

Overloading Policy: If, at any stage, it is found that the aircraft will be overloaded with the booked load or passengers, the company will have the right to decide which passengers or articles shall be off-loaded, and such decision shall be binding.

Liability Disclaimer: SpiceJet shall not be liable for any damage resulting from acts of error or omission in timetables or other published schedules, or representations made by its employees, agents, or representatives regarding the date and/or time of departure/arrival or operation of any flight, except in cases where it is proven that the intention was to cause such damage. The schedule is subject to change and regulatory approval.
